30,000 Donated Geiger Counters Sitting In Japan Warehouse, Unused

What follows is a video of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) committee meeting 19.05.11.

During this meeting, these political leaders discuss where and how 20,000 to 40,000 donated Geiger Counters from various countries have been distributed around Japan, or not as the case may be.

The problem seems to be, that one of the officials claims at the beginning of the video that all of them have been distributed.

However, upon being pressured to answer more specific questions, at the very end by another committee member, he cannot even say if any of the meters left the warehouse, where they have been stored since March of 2011.

Why would Japan keep 30,000 donated Geiger Counters sitting in a warehouse at an airport, when residents of Japan desperately need them and want to use them?

Well, what do you think? Could it be that they do not want citizens running around measuring toxic health robbing radiation on their own?

Could it be that they do not want people on the street to find out that the government readings are much different from theirs?

Who knows what informed and empowered citizens would find out, if they got some tools in their hands? No, no, no, we cannot have that…

One would think that this bad situation cannot get any worse. But it did get worse. According to more than one blogger, Japan has ‘lost’ most or all of the donated Geiger Counters, and has banned any more foreign Geiger Counters from coming in. Other stories detail that those ordered directly from overseas, arrive damaged.
