Port Hope Ontario; Uranium Mining, Processing & Production

Dr. Helen Caldicott MD talks about the exporting of uranium from the town of Port Hope Ontario in the video below. 


She reports that no medical or scientific studies have been done around the emissions from this plant, (or the contaminated soils under the town). This plant takes raw uranium ore and prepares it for enrichment in the US, Japan and elsewhere.

The next small video clip below details a possible hidden, secret nuclear waste dump right outside of Port Hope, Ontario, plus the unfinished nuclear power plant and abandoned town of Wesleyville, Ontario, located nearby. 

The video author describes it this way; “On a road trip to Montreal Quebec my friend and I came across this nuclear waste dump in Port Hope Ontario, this was slightly alarming considering its proximity to the lake. 


There was a definite feeling of discomfort experienced and I do not plan to return. The last clip is of the never completed Wesleyville Power Facility in the ghost town of Wesleyville Ontario, there has been rumours that it will soon be activated as a Nuclear facility. The whole area was basically deserted and felt very post-apocalyptic. This was just an interesting little video idea that I had.”

In the video above, the author says; “A Trex 450 RC helicopter flies around the old sinister looking buildings of Cameco in Port Hope Ontario, the facility from where the ingredients of the bomb used on Hiroshima originated. 


This uranium conversion plant is one of only four in the western hemisphere…

Drums intended for the storage of waste can be seen and the hump covered in black tarp is contaminated earth that was recently excavated from the town’s harbor, where waste used to be dumped in the old days. 

Many areas of the town were built on nuclear waste (radioactive uranium mine tailing piles) and a ten year plan, so far allocated 280 million dollars is in the works to remove the earth around town containing waste, but, they don’t know what to do with it!

There were some plans to dig caverns under Lake Ontario for dumping but that has been now deemed impractical…..

Even more sadly, the little town is full of turn of the century architecture designated as a Heritage Conservation District, boasting some of the best preserved 19th century streetscapes in Ontario, many of which will also be effected by a clean-up if it ever happens.

The flight is brief and stays long ways away from the plant’s airspace for obvious reasons.”

The above town sounds like it potentially could be like the following one in Ottowa, Illinois; only without a documentary movies done about it…Maybe someone can do one in the near future? Has anyone taken radiation readings in this town, or near the uranium processing plant nearby?

There is a movement to try and start up the abandoned power plant nearby and potentially make it into a nuclear power plant. The area boasts of having two nuclear power plants nearby already, (Darlington and Pickering) so why not a third one?
