In this video interview with Gordon Edwards, President of the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility (CCNR) at the Western Mining Action Network Conference, 2011, Dr. Edwards addresses the need to strengthen safety standards on uranium mining and radioactive elements in the uranium tailing piles left over from mining activities. 


Dr. Edwards recommends no new uranium mines be licensed until technologies exist allowing for the extraction of the long lived radio nuclides from the ore. Looking at the big picture, Dr. Edwards asserts that uranium mining shouldn’t be allowed at all.”

This is another example of huge corporations taking profits from public lands, and then transferring the toxic risk and dangerous radioactive elements that cause death and disease for potentially millions of years to the public taxpayer. All costs associated with cleanup are given to the taxpayer.
