Fukushima Spent Fuel Pool #4; Global Life Extinction Event If It Collapses

If the #4 spent fuel pool collapses, it would make the whole Fukushima site a place where nuclear workers could not go and still live to tell about it. People are the only thing holding this massive accident back on the teetering edge of a global life extinction precipice. There is a MASSIVE amount of highly radioactive fuel at this one site, due to clustering of many nuclear reactors all in one place. Just how many toxic radioactive rods are located just in this one place?

Tepco has potentially lost over 10,000 high radioactive nuclear fuel rods due to fires and/or explosions within the melted down reactors and spent fuel pools at Fukushima Daichi . Potentially, there are only a few thousand rods left over after all of the melt downs, melt throughs, fires and explosions. 

TEPCO is not giving out ANY information about all of this. They are covering this whole disaster up. They do not talk about the loss of reactor core fuel rods. They do not talk about the loss of spent fuel pool rods. We may very have exceeded the amount of Plutonium coming out of the burned MOX fuel at Fukushima to kill all life on this planet. The shared pool with 6500 rods, lost its roof and quite possibly also had either a partial or complete melt down. Again, TEPCO is not releasing any information or allowing any country to send in their experts to confirm or deny anything that they say as their official figures.  


After Chernobyl exploded and melted down, the government there ordered 1 MILLION people to work there, to try and prevent further disaster and to keep the melted corium blob from going down to groundwater, where it could explode and cause the entire continent to become unlivable, plus contaminating the whole globe much worse than it did anyway.

At Fukushima, it looks and feels like no one even cares. The workers take weekends off, and there was NO EFFORT to keep the coriums from three reactors from breaching containment and then melting through into the ground, where they presently are. There are a few hundred to a few thousand working there a few days a week.

On March 25, 2012,  Mitsuhei Murata, who is the Former Japanese Ambassador to Switzerland and Senegal and the Executive Director, the Japan Society for Global System and Ethics, wrote a letter to the Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon.

In this letter, available at link below, he states that “the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on #4 reactor spent fuel pool. This is confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Dr. Fumiaki Koide…. it is indispensable to draw the attention of world leaders to this vital issue, and asked… taking the initiative of mobilizing human wisdom on the widest scope to cope with the Fukushima reactor No.4 problem, fully taking into account the above-mentioned “independent assessment team”.

In Flashpoints Daily Newsmag on 05-09-12, Physicist Dr. Micio Kaku talks about the potential disaster that can happen at spent fuel pool #4. He describes how desperate and dangerous this situation is, in a completely different way from anyone else. 


Bottom line, everyone who knows what is going on agrees that Spent Fuel Pool #4 is close to collapsing. Akio and Mitsuhei Murata are both warning everyone who bothers to listen, that if spent fuel pool #4 (SFP #4) falls over and spills all of it’s highly radioactive spent fuel contents on the ground, it will mean the end of all human life in Japan. 

They both agree that it quite possibly will also result in a life extinction event for the whole world, due to the cascading loss of all other nuclear plants and spent fuel pools on site as a result of this, with the subsequent release of MASSIVE amounts of radiation that will never end for thousands of years into the future.

According to a Blue Ribbon Commission report, SFP #4 contains 1,535 fuel assemblies. A fuel assembly contains many fuel rods. The total equivalent number of fuel rods contained within 1,535 fuel assemblies totals almost 145,000.

The problem is not limited to (SFP #4). (SFP #4) is close to the common spent fuel pool, which contains approximately 600,000 fuel rods within the 6,375 fuel assemblies that it contains. 

We are still not talking about all of the other spent fuel pools or the other reactors at Fukushima Daichi, much less other nuclear power plants near this one, such as Fukushima Daini.

If (SFP #4) falls over or collapses, due to the damage to the building from one or more hydrogen explosions, and the large numbers of earthquakes that have happened since the accident, it means the entire Fukushima site will be inaccessible to human beings, because this one small spent fuel pool falling over event will radically increase the toxic radiation to such a high level, that NO ONE will be able to even get close to the entire Fukushima nuclear power plant site. 


If and when the Fukushima nuclear power plant site becomes too toxic for human life to even get close to it, it will mean that the common spent fuel pool and all other reactors at the site will eventually melt down, explode or worse, because it takes constant human attention, repairs and maintenance to keep them all going and to keep things from getting much, much worse, very quickly.  


The company is saying that the whole plant is in ‘cold shutdown’. But is it really?

There is debate about the condition of this spent fuel pool, due to limited or no information coming from TEPCO.

Nuclear expert Arnie Gunderson weighed in on this subject and said that the following picture showed that the #4 SFP was completely exposed to the air, which means that a melt down of the rods contained in this pool definitely happened.

The utility company is disputing the above version of events and claims that the fuel pool in question is in relatively good condition. with only a 10% of Chernobyl radiation release total from the entire Fukushima complex of multiple reactors and spent fuel pools. 

However, TEPCO has consistently provided severely conflicting statements around just about anything to do with Fukushima, so if one relies on their press reports, it is hard to determine if anything at all actually happened, much less to pin them down to single number around ANYTHING. Here is a short video that shows the spent fuel pool in question, from the outside. The actual (REAL) video may be VERY different, (as shown above) because the video below was generated by the utility company. We may want to consider that the following video is either a ‘doctored’ version, or an extreme best case estimate/scenario, because it differs so radically from the video and explanation provided by Arnie Gunderson, as well as other neutral nuclear experts, showing where the walls of the pool seem to be missing and nuclear fuel rods are exposed to the air, where they can heat up, burn and/or melt down. 



Another view of the inside of the spent fuel pool as of Feb. 2012, as provided by TEPCO…This video clearly shows damaged, melted fuel rod bundles, with empty holes where the tiny uranium rods are supposed to be. Again, this could be a ‘best case’ scenario that may very well not accurately reflect the actual situation of whatever remains of Spent Fuel Pool #4. This video could be from any of the spent fuel pools at Fukushima Daichi. 

There has been no neutral third party confirming or denying anything that TEPCO has released as far as videos; (the IAEA does not count, because they are a marketing arm of the nuclear industry.) Just reading the above summaries, without even going into the details, we can agree that SFP #4 had severe problems after the tsunami hit, from almost or completely running out of water, catching fire more than once, and finally experiencing a hydrogen explosion, or worse. 

It is not just SFP4 that has had problems. Newly Released TEPCO Data Proves Fairewinds Assertions of Significant Fuel Pool Failures at Fukushima Daiichi, in SFP’s #1-3. 


Building #3 shows evidence of a corium event, as shown by the picture below. Again, TEPCO makes no mention of this, and denies any melt through happened ANYWHERE at Fukushima Daichi. 

Many experts are trying to warn the world about the volatile situation at Fukushima, in order to bring to bear the world’s resources on this pressing issue. 

So far, the US mass media has not talked about this situation, which means most people are largely in the dark about this dangerous and potential global life extinction situation. But a few people have been speaking out:

SFP #4 contained a massive amount of plutonium, with each fuel rod weighing approximately 700 lbs. The MOX rods within this pool contained about  140 lbs. of plutonium in each rod. The total weight of each rod is 1,200 pounds but that includes all the materials in the rod, not just the fissionable materials.  
In regular uranium fuel rods, after they are burned in a reactor, about 5% of URANIUM 238/235 standard rod inside of any reactor turns into plutonium, so even these rods contain a substantial amount of plutonium once they are ‘spent’ or burned up and ready to take out of the reactor. So what is the danger of plutonium?

Even without SFP #4 collapsing, we may have already experienced a global life extinction event. The amount of toxic, deadly dangerous plutonium released is MASSIVE and has never happened before in human history. The consequences are also unknown, since this has never happened in the entire history of the planet.

This is not the only life extinction threat faced by humanity. There is another disaster that is coming, and it has everything to do with the nuclear industry ignoring dangers, covering up accidents, and denying any significant radiation release. If the industry cannot be honest and truthful now, how can they prepare for massive natural events, such as Carrington Events, which happen historically on a fairly regular basis?

At Fukushima, three fuel cores completely melted through the reactors and ended up in the ground. They are all constantly contaminating, groundwater, air and ocean water. They have been burning out of control since March 2011, until now. But this fact has also been completely covered up by both the nuclear industry and TEPCO specifically. 

Due to constant earthquakes,  Fukushima is collapsing, fissuring and sinking, up to 30″ in some places. Given the precarious situation, and deteriorating conditions, plus the fact that workers are harder and harder to get for less and less pay, it seems as if the buildings and SFP #4 will not stand. 

If and when SFP #4 falls, it will  catch fire due to no water covering the ‘hot’ spent fuel rods. This means the whole Fukushima site will have to evacuated, which means the rest of the SFP’s will melt down and burn as well. There will be up to TEN out of control nuclear fires at Fukushima, if things get worse. So what is being done to keep this nightmare from Hell from happening?

TEPCO is building a crane to ‘unload’ spent fuel from SFP4, which will take all of 2013 to finish. The removal of spent fuel from this SFP #4 will take at least another year, if all goes well. They assume no fuel assemblies were damaged and that all of them can just be lifted straight out of the pool.  But TEPCO really has no idea how long it will take or even if it is possible, because most of the ‘hot’ fuel may be melted down in the bottom of this pool. 

Are you worried about SFP #4? You should be. Any normal human being who has an ounce of empathy or caring about fellow human beings would be concerned enough to take massive action and get involved in this situation, and do everything possible to prevent it from getting worse. The WHOLE WORLD should be involved, and many countries SHOULD BE helping, taking action here, but there is nothing like that happening. 

TEPCO SHOULD BE in panic mode…. but they act as if nothing unusual is happening at all. Oddly enough, they send everyone home on weekends, for vacation time, as if this were just a normal job. 

Meanwhile, Fukushima keeps on burning and releasing radiation. According to the author of this video, the Common Spent Fuel Pool is burning.. as of 12/2012. This may be confirmed by rising background radiation levels globally.

  2. Thank you. I'm trying desperately to get people to listen on Facebook. So far, only one person out of all of my "friends" is even interested. One friend likes to counter my posts by sharing at me with snotty remarks about doomsdayers who buy into all the radiation scare.The friends and family I see face to face don't care either. They will go on and on about what they see as "problems". Stuff like the economy for example. A high possibility of the end of human life in the near future seems to not be so important.Dummies.
