On the positive side, humanity can live through huge calamities that Nature throws as us periodically, but ONLY if we get rid of and shut down all nuclear power plants and then put all nuclear fuel into dry cask storage, where no power based cooling is required.

If we do not shut down all nuclear plants and get rid of all nuclear weapons, nuclear power is a ticking time bomb, ready to explode and wipe out all life on the planet with any large but infrequent natural event, such as earthquake, tsunami, Carrington Event or meteor, or a global nuclear war, just because someone eventually is crazy enough, drunk, drugged or has a suicidal/Armageddon like urge to push a button that launches a nuclear missile, and then everyone else has to respond with EVERYTHING they have. 

Even the former chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency agrees with this position. He said recently that all nuclear plants should be shut down. Here is is quote…

We petition the obama administration to:

shut down ALL nuclear reactors 1 at a time, safety as the reason. Must be made to withstand Earthquakes / Tsunamis.

Recently, (May 5 2012) Japan has announced the SHUT DOWN of its final nuclear power plant.

The entire country is now operating free from nuclear power.

This petition of redress to the Whitehouse, specifically to President Obama, is aimed to mimic the reduction, and eventual ELIMINATION of all nuclear power plants within the Continental United States of America.

The shutdown process: Close each nuclear plant when it comes up for safety review. The reason for shutdown will be for the plant to assure it is 100% earthquake / tsunami proof.

If the plant is not deemed 100% Earthquake / Tsunami proof, then it will be permanently closed.

This petition was a great start, but we would add Carrington Event to the wording, for the next petition.

In case anyone thinks that closing all nuclear plants is impossible or difficult, other nations have already done it.. Japan closed all 50 plus nuclear power plants in their country after Fukushima, and Germany just voted to close all of their nuclear plants down.

The number of countries and states that have no nuclear power plants is growing, not shrinking. The number of nuclear power plants closing down is accelerating for many reasons, including competition in terms of price and environmental concerns with renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, water, geothermal, hydrogen, etc.

The number of nations voting to close down all nuclear plants at the end of their lifetimes is also accelerating. The movement to a clean, carbon free, renewable energy powered future is growing. Will you be part of this movement? Will you support it with your active participation? Will you vote only for those reps who pledge to work on shutting down nuclear and expanding renewables? Will you sign petitions? Will you attend pro clean energy meetings? Will you propose or support local city clean power initiatives? You have a lot of power… Get involved. Make a difference.
