More than 330 active production wells provide steam that is piped directly into turbines to generate electricity. These plants supply approximately 725,000 kilowatts of reliable base load electricity to northern California’s power grid. Theoretically, if all of this power were used in Sonoma County, it would provide 100% of the power needs using clean, renewable, zero carbon energy as it’s source.

If each local region or county developed their geothermal energy potential, there would be enough energy just from this source to provide for all of the electricity needs for the entire region, globally. Iceland and the Geysers plant in Northern California provides the whole world a living example of what can be done.
Steam can power industrial machinery directly, without any electricity conversion. Here is an example of steam powering huge industrial pumps.
Granted, these huge pumps were originally powered by coal which was burned to produce steam, but there is no reason why this equipment could not be powered by geothermal steam energy directly.
Steam can also be generated and create electricity from waste heat coming from industrial processes and manufacturing facilities that produce large quantities of heat through boilers, etc.
