Low level and high level nuclear waste is little more than a never ending disaster, both for the nation that produces it, and other nations or the environment that end up ‘receiving’ it, via either illegal or legal means. WIPP is a salt mine turned into a nuclear waste depository in the US. WIPP is turning into a financial disaster, due to one single drum of plutonium waste that ‘leaked’ or ‘exploded’. 

Germany had even worse problems with their salt mine turned into a nuclear waste depository. It got so bad, that the country has decided to pull all of the nuclear waste out of the mine that was put in there many years ago.

The federal government collected disposal fees, and for decades ministers in Bonn, Berlin and the nearby city of Hanover, the state capital, blithely disregarded the problem.
