Jim Berkland Geologist Says Major Earthquake Imminent for California; Ring Of Fire Documentary,  USGS: SAN ANDREAS FAULT IS “LOCKED AND LOADED”

AGRP focuses on earthquake risks and predictions, but also ties these risks and predictions together with nuclear plants. The mass media for the most part ignores and denies the danger of massive earthquakes as they relate to nuclear plants. Why? 
This article focuses on a variety of scientists, a geologists and other prediction methods, all of which point to an increased risk of a huge earthquake in California in the near future. AGRP goes into specifics via links to other articles about what this risk means in terms of how a 9.0 earthquake caused multiple nuclear plants to melt down and out in Japan, and how a massive earthquake may affect the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant in California.

In an interview published on October 13, 1989, one day before the start of baseball’s 1989 World Series, Berkland predicted that an earthquake with magnitude between 3.5 and 6.0 would occur in the San Francisco Bay Area between October 14 and October 21.[3][4] The 6.9-magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake occurred on October 17, just before the start of the third game of the Series. Berkland claims that government officials told him not to make any more predictions, fearing mass panic, and he was suspended for two months from his Santa Clara County geology position in late October, 1989.

The southern San Andreas is “ready to have an earthquake because it’s really locked and loaded,” U.S.G.S scientists say
The report found there is a 19 percent chance in the next 30 years that a Northridge-size quake will unzip the southern section compared to a 6.4 percent chance for the northern section, partly because it last broke in 1906. Scientists are virtually certain that California will be rocked by a strong earthquake in the next 30 years. Now they say the risk of a mega-quake is more likely than previously thought…”

WINDOW FOR MAJOR EARTHQUAKE IS 200 TO 900 YEARS ON WEST COAST, LAST EARTHQUAKE WAS IN THE 1700’S

HoTaters June 1, 2015 Hello dka, the ordinary interval between major Cascadia Subduction Zone events is 400-600 years. So we’re certainly in the window for an occurrence, but perhaps not overdue. Please see these references:

Some sources say the interval is 300 to 900 years, such as Wikipedia.
Humboldt State University has done a lot of research on the Cascadia Subduction Zone; appropriately so, since Arcta, California is located near the Triple Junction Zone where the Pacific Plate, North American Plate, and Juan de Fuca/Gorda Plates meet.
HSU states the interval is from 200 to 900 years.
When the next large Cascadia Subduction Zone quake occurs, it could be disasterous, especially if an event of magnitude 8.0 – 9.0 or greater is generated. If that were to occur with the epicenter near a populated area or areas, the results could be disastrous.
Did you know the Alaska earthquake of 1964 generated a large tsunami which hit Crescent City, California, and killed hundreds of people?
Yes, there are three nuclear power plants located directly on the West Coast, plus a number of nuclear submarine ports. The nuclear plants are in San Onofre, California (recently closed but not decommissioned), the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant near San Luis Obispo, california, and the Eureka, California plant, which is decomissioned and in SafeStor.
At least PG&E, in response to academic and public pressure, realized the Eureka plant sat adjacent to a large number of small faults. It is also close to the Mendocino Triple Junction Zone. If you look at the data on historical earthquakes in the area, you’ll see why closing the Eureka plant was a very, very good idea.
There was a 7.2 earthquake in the area in 1992; actually, three or four 7.0+ earthquakes over a 24 hour period. People decided after that it was unsafe to have a nuclear plant in such an earthquake prone area.”

SUMMARY

Let’s all hope and pray that if this large earthquake happens, that it does not bring down the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant, like the 9.0 earthquake that brought down multiple Fukushima Daichi nuclear reactors and spent fuel pools.
The nuclear industry  as well as the military and the carbon fuel monopoly all seems bent on building more earthquake producing machines, no matter what the risk or cost to humanity. Will the lessons have to get harder from here, until people wake up and realize just how dangerous these industries are? The answers are all there, waiting for us to make the ‘right’ choice.
