A severe forest fire broke out a week ago near the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Despite all the efforts, the firefighters have not yet managed to control the fire that has already destroyed more than 20 hectares of forest.
It has now been more than a week since the exclusion zone around the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant is plagued by a major forest fire. According to the Japanese channel FCT, the combined efforts of 16 helicopters and about 600 firefighters have not yet been completed, in particular because of the area of the territory concerned and a strong wind that boosts the flames.
The smoke from this fire is radioactive and should not be inhaled. All fire fighters are putting their lives on the line, and hopefully, they are at least getting oxygen equipment, or very good air filtration breathing masks..
