The UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights came to damning, but unsurprising, conclusions after his visit to the USA, even though he failed to visit the poorest state, Mississippi. Over 40 million are living below the poverty line in the USA. The official poverty line, itself, has been known to be far too low for decades. He mentions that only 89% of men ages 25-54 are employed, meaning that 11% of men ages 25 to 54 are unemployed. The percentage of unemployed women is likely even higher. How many are underemployed?
