Dire warning: Climate Change Workshop discusses sea level rise
Scientists admit that their projections of sea level rise caused by global warming have been wrong.
Unfortunately, those forecasts have consistently been too conservative in predicting the effects of manmade climate change, and real-world data keeps showing sea level rise (SLR) is happening faster than their models indicated.
So said Dr. Harold Wanless, chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Miami, speaking to an audience at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in North Naples on Feb. 17.
The climate change workshop, sponsored by Collier Freedom, aimed at giving them information that will allow them to become climate change ambassadors, and to speak knowledgeably about the challenges we face.
Those challenges are dire, with all of South Florida headed to become uninhabitable within this century, even before it is inevitably inundated by the rising ocean, said Wanless.
