Putin has been in power for almost 20 years, since 1999. He was Prime Minister of Russia from 1999; acting President from December 31, 1999 and started his first Presidential term in 2000. From 2008 to 2012 he was Prime Minister between his Presidential terms. He was a KGB foreign intel officer for 16 years until he resigned in 1991 to go into St. Petersburg politics. In 1996 he became part of Yeltsin’s administration. In 2011, Russian Presidential terms were lengthened from four to six years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Putin. In the US, FDR violated the two term tradition, started by George Washington, and was elected four times, but died at the very beginning of his fourth term. Thus, he was President for only 12 years and one month (1933-45). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_D._Roosevelt After his death, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution made being US President for more than two four year terms illegal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution…
