President Donald Trump claimed Monday that he had the right to pardon himself but wouldn’t do so because he had “done nothing wrong.”
“As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?” he tweeted.
Rashid Patch – The assertion that the president can pardon themselves is so inherently contemptuous of the rule of law as to constitute treason in and of itself, and prima facia grounds for impeachment. Even Nixon did not make such a ludicrous claim. Even King George III, whose tyrannous acts triggered the Revolutionary War never claimed to be above the law.
