Trump has tapped anti-immigrant extremist Ronald Mortensen to serve as the top diplomat overseeing refugee resettlement in the United States. The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) helps resettle refugees here and protect them worldwide. A loud and proud bigot like Mortensen is not fit for the role.
Not only is Ronald Mortensen a paid fellow of an anti-immigrant hate group, but he has also made a career of demonizing immigrants and refugees—the very people he’d be tasked with aiding—as violent criminals and terrorists.
Mortensen’s Senate confirmation hearing is next month. We need the Senate to block his appointment.
Like so many Trump nominees, Mortensen doesn’t have a shred of experience and is openly hostile to the mission of the agency he’s been chosen to lead. This administration wants to destroy our government from the inside out, and Mortensen’s nomination is further proof.
Right wing attacks on immigrants and refugees are intensifying. The family separation policy traumatizes families seeking asylum at the border. The Supreme Court upheld the racist Muslim ban. If Trump’s nominee for a critical refugee post gets confirmed, things can only get worse.
