Despite all we know about Brett Kavanaugh’s record—his extreme opposition to abortion, his rejection of the Affordable Care Act, his belief that presidents wield unprecedented power and should be above the law, and now serious allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman—about 20 senators have still not announced how they will vote on his nomination.
The stakes could not be higher. With Kavanaugh up for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act are in play, putting health care access in dire jeopardy for millions and millions of people across the country.
Further, Trump himself is under criminal investigation in Mueller’s Russia probe—an investigation that the Supreme Court may very well rule on in the future. Kavanaugh’s views on presidential power alone should be enough to halt his hearings in this critical moment.
AGR; These appointments are supposed to be about finding a MIDDLE ground candidate that works for both parties, not an extreme right wing zealot who can be rammed through.
