UN: For Many Americans, The U.S. Is Approaching Third World Conditions – The Intellectualist

The United Nations’ expert on extreme poverty called America’s approach to poverty “cruel and inhuman”.

United Nations special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights Philip Alston said in his recent report that the United States is “cruel and inhuman” in its approach to America’s poor.

Alston also noted that more than five million Americans are living in what he described as “third world” conditions.

He also noted that the U.S. has the “highest income inequality in the Western world, the highest incarceration rate in the entire world and one of the lowest turnout rates in elections among developed countries.”
