Japan: 8 years after the tsunami, the Fukushima power station remains a huge construction site
In total, approximately 1.12 million m3 of water is stored in tanks on the site, but the maximum capacity (1.37 million) will be reached by the end of 2020.
This water is treated by a decontamination system that eliminates radioactive elements with the exception of tritium.
Problem: TEPCO acknowledged at the end of last year that 85% of the water was in fact still carrying too high a content for the 62 radionuclides that were supposed to be removed. The company has decided to filter it a second time.
