FACT SHEET: Lack of access to handwashing with soap puts millions of people at increased risk of contracting COVID-19 and other infectious diseases

Only three in five people around the world have access to basic hand washing facilities. Globally, 40% of the population, or 3 billion people, do not have facilities for washing hands with soap and water at home. Almost three quarters of the population in the least developed countries do not have basic hand washing facilities at home.
