Earlier this week, several news outlets ran with a story that claimed Tesla was putting charging circuitry into its Model 3 (and by association, Model Y) that were physically capable of bidirectional power transfer to and from the battery pack and a charging station. Some, like Electrek, called it “game changing” (https://electrek.co/2020/05/19/tesla-…) But while some outlets ran the story, we weren’t convinced – partly because the circuit shared wasn’t complete.
Yesterday, our suspicions were confirmed when Phil Sadow from the @Ingineerix YouTube channel proved that the original circuit diagnosis was incorrect — and that there’s no way current Model 3 charging circuits can allow two-way power transfer.(2) Bidirectional Charging in A Tesla Model 3?
