50 Doctors Make Forbes Billionaires List Thanks to Ill Health

Thanks to pandemics, diseases and vaccines, a handful of doctors have made the Forbes list of billionaires. Their fortunes are multiplying thanks to the rise of pharmaceutical companies on the world’s stock markets.

Forbes lists 50 new billionaires in the health sector who emerged last year thanks to their vaccines, notably Ugur Sahin of Biontech and Stephane Bancel of Moderna (*).

Both were unknown before the pandemic and earned a lot, but nothing compared to what they earn now. The head of Biontech, Ugur Sahin, who co-founded the company with his wife, Ozlem Tureci, the company’s medical director, now has a fortune in excess of 3.3 billion euros.

His Moderna counterpart, Stephane Bancel, has a similar net worth, also slightly above €3.3 billion.
