Ukraine is another of many examples of this form of banking colonialism. Prior to the 2014 coup Ukraine had suffered three economic recessions since 2008 (1). The government was in negotiations with the IMF as part of its trade integration with the European Union. The IMF had asked Ukraine to undertake typical economic reforms: reducing wages, cutting healthcare and education, which were the main sectors generating employment in Ukraine, and reducing the subsidy on natural gas provided by the state to all Ukrainian citizens to ensure affordable energy.
By not implementing these reforms, which would have imposed a heavy burden on the population, President Yanukovych terminated negotiations with the IMF and initiated parallel talks with Russia. That is why the media whippersnappers call him a “pro-Russian”.
Breaking ties with the IMF means escaping from the hegemony of international finance capital and, consequently, from the Western imperialist powers and NATO, which is its armed wing.Ukraine: A puppet of the International Monetary Fund – El colectivo de Uno / The Collective of One
The US CIA did a surgical coup in 2014, via NEO NAZI groups, which are now part of the Ukrainian military and government. And of course, the IMF came into Ukraine, with the blessing of the current ‘leader’ who is listed along with his inner circle, in the Pandora papers, detailing absolutely corrupt politicians globally.
