Who was Enoch in the Bible? There are at least four different men mentioned as Enoch throughout the Bible book of Genesis. However, one specific Enoch mentioned in Genesis 5:18 that the Bible speaks most about.

Enoch is mentioned in the Book of Genesis as the seventh generation from Adam and the father of Methuselah. According to the Bible, Enoch “walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” This is often interpreted to mean that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying.

Enoch is also mentioned in the Book of Jubilees, an apocryphal text that was written in the second century BC. The Book of Jubilees describes Enoch as a righteous man who was chosen by God to be a messenger of his word. The book also tells the story of Enoch’s journey to heaven, where he was given a tour of the heavenly realm and shown the world’s fate.

The book of Hebrews states that “By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: ‘He could not be found, because God had taken him away.’ For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.” (Heb. 11:5)

Enoch was one of only two people in the Bible who were said to have been chosen to escape death by God, the other being Elijah. What an incredible life he must have lived serving God!
