What Is Official Canon List Of Old Testament Bible (24-49 Books)? Canon List Of New Testament Bible (0-125 Books)? Why Are There 900 Different Versions Of The Bible? Pharisee & Heresy Defined

Psalms 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Which ‘official’ Bible version is the ‘best’ one? There are over 900 different versions of the Bible which have been published and almost all of them are official ‘canon’ for a particular Christian denomination https://bibleproject.com/articles/does-a-most-accurate-bible-translation-exist/

Holy Spirit, guide us and teach us; which one might be heresy and which one is ok? Teach us and guide us into understanding how Christ thinks about canon, heresy and division in Christ’s family.

WHERE DID THE TERM ‘CANON’ ORIGINATE? CANON = TOP DOWN AUTHORITY FIGURES WITHIN A PARTICULAR RELIGION, WHO ENFORCE THE ‘RULES’

The Pharisee were known for their strict conformity to Jewish laws in the Old Testament. Who are they?

John 3:1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.

Acts 26:5 They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee.

What would Jesus have to say about enforcing ‘canon’, otherwise known as ‘rules’ or ‘laws’ as listed in the official canon Bible?

Matthew 23:23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

Canon when Christ had his ministry was what Christ taught both by example and by his words, which were transmitted via the New Testament Bible alone. Christ taught by example how to live as a Christian using humility, faith, prayer, service, sharing, giving, peacefulness, non violence, and forgiveness, even to the point of not resisting those who killed him and saying;

Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive themfor they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

WHEN WAS THE 1ST CHURCH COUNCIL OF JERUSALEM, TO ESTABLISH THE FIRST ‘CANON’? 50 AD

The 12 apostles of Christ had the first ‘Council’ and via the help of the Holy Spirit, decided to publish the First Bible, which contained only 11 books, encompassing only the teachings and life of Jesus, but nothing else, because it would create a door for Satan to come into the churches. This was the FIRST. The apostles decided formally that Christians did not have to obey all of the Old Testament laws, rules and edicts, such as circumcisions. They also decided to EXCLUDE the Old Testament from the first published New Testament Bible.

THE 2ND COUNCIL IN 325 AD, CONTROLLED BY A PAGAN ROMAN EMPEROR

Then came the SECOND Bible, with a 2nd Canon, after all of Christ’s apostles had died and 300 years had gone by. The pure and sacred teachings of Christ were ‘modified’ into a set of Canons, via the Roman Empire, plus the addition of the Old Testament. The Old Testament was elevated, emphasized and put ahead/on top of of the teachings of Christ. This SECOND council led by the Emperor was also put ahead of the 1st council, in an attempt to nullify everything in and around the 1st Apostles council, by calling it the ‘1st Council of Nicaea’. (Try finding out any detailed information about the 1st Council)

Council of Nicaea, (325), the first ecumenical council of the Christian church, meeting in ancient Nicaea (now İznikTurkey). It was called by the emperor Constantine I, an unbaptized catechumen, who presided over the opening session and took part in the discussions. He hoped a general council of the church would solve the problem created in the Eastern church by Arianism, a heresy first proposed by Arius of Alexandria that affirmed that Christ is not divine but a created being. Pope Sylvester I did not attend the council but was represented by legates. https://www.britannica.com/event/First-Council-of-Nicaea-325

Constantine reigned during the 4th century CE and is known for attempting to Christianize the Roman Empire. He made the persecution of Christians illegal by signing the Edict of Milan in 313 and helped spread the religion by bankrolling church-building projects, commissioning new copies of the Bible, and summoning councils of theologians to hammer out the religion’s doctrinal kinks https://www.britannica.com/question/How-did-the-Roman-Empire-change-under-Constantine-I-the-Great

100 Bible Verses about Pharisees

Matthew 23:1-39 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, …

Jesus said; Matthew 23:15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves…. 29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? 34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[f] whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Jesus said; Matthew 5:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Matthew 23:25  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

Matthew 16:6 Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

(Jesus said) Luke 20:46-47 “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

(Jesus said)Luke 18:10-14 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Matthew 3:7-12 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

‘CANON’ BY 400 AD WAS DEFINED AS A TITLE FOR A PERSON OR RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY LIVING IN CLERGY HOUSING

Where did the term ‘canon’ go after the first Canon by the 12 apostles?

Wikipedia; “a canon was a cleric living with others in a clergy house or, later, in one of the houses within the precinct of or close to a cathedral or other major church and conducting his life according to the customary discipline or rules of the church. …. In the Church of England; “A canon is a member of the chapter of (for the most part) priests, headed by a dean, which is responsible for administering a cathedral or certain other churches that are styled collegiate churches. The dean and chapter are the formal body which has legal responsibility for the cathedral and for electing the bishop. A canon professor is a canon at an Anglican cathedral (either lay or in orders) who also holds a university professorship. There are four canon professorships in the University of Oxford in conjunction with Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford and two in Durham University in conjunction with Durham Cathedral,[9][10] although academics titled “canon professor” may also be found at other universities where the appointments as canon and professor have been made independently.[11][12][13] Much more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_(title)

‘CANON’ IN 400 AD WAS DEFINED AS A PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS OR SACRED TEXT, BOOK, AND BELIEF SYSTEM

Wikipedia; “Some religious texts are categorized as canonical, some non-canonical, and others extracanonical, semi-canonical, deutero-canonical, pre-canonical or post-canonical.[7] The term “canon” is derived from the Greek word “κανών”, “a cane used as a measuring instrument”. It connotes the sense of “measure, standard, norm, rule”. In the modern usage, a religious canon refers to a “catalogue of sacred scriptures” that is broadly accepted to “contain and agree with the rule or canon of a particular faith”, states Juan Widow.[8]

The related terms such as “non-canonical”, “extracanonical”, “deuterocanonical” and others presume and are derived from “canon”. These derived terms differentiate a corpus of religious texts from the “canonical” literature. At its root, this differentiation reflects the sects and conflicts that developed and branched off over time, the competitive “acceptance” of a common minimum over time and the “rejection” of interpretations, beliefs, rules or practices by one group of another related socio-religious group.[9]

The earliest reference to the term “canon” in the context of “a collection of sacred Scripture” is traceable to the 4th-century CE. The early references, such as the Synod of Laodicea, mention both the terms “canonical” and “non-canonical” in the context of religious texts.[10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_text

Bottom line, any ‘canon’ practice around the Bible did not begin to appear until 400 AD, or 400 years after the birth of Christ.

Part of the practice of ‘canon’ involves approving what is heresy, and then punishing any heretics, who disagree or dissent from the official ‘canon’. Millions of Christians and even more ‘unbelievers’ of other faiths were killed via charges of heresy, and then waging holy wars against them all.

Might the practice of enforcing a particular ‘canon’ violate the teaching of Jesus Christ, who taught forgiveness, pacifism, and grace?

WHAT IS HERESY, FALSE DOCTRINE, APOSTASY, BLASPHEMY?

If a particular belief, practice, Bible or book within the Bible does not contain 100 percent church council approved ‘canon’, it may be labeled as ‘heresy’, along with ANY person approving of it, selling it, reading it, marketing it, debating it, or talking about it. During the Middle Ages, many people, including other denominations of Christians who disagreed with the official ‘canon’ version of the Catholic religion/canon were labeled as ‘heretics’, tortured until they confessed and then burned at the stake as part of the Inquisition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition

Estimates of the number of Protestants killed by Catholic Papacy during Middle Ages..50-100 million, at a rate of 40,000 per year from the year 600 AD to present, for heresy.

In those days, there were only nobles/King, religious officials/canon, and serfs. The serfs suffered almost all of the penalties of heresy, via the Inquisition. There was no middle class, and serfs could not vote, so they had no rights or freedoms. Absolute power of kings was absolutely corrupting.. Here is one example…

Wikipedia; “The 1578 edition of the Directorium Inquisitorum (a standard Inquisitorial manual) spelled out (by Francisco Peña) the purpose of inquisitorial penalties: … quoniam punitio non refertur primo & per se in correctionem & bonum eius qui punitur, sed in bonum publicum ut alij terreantur, & a malis committendis avocentur (translation: “… for punishment does not take place primarily and per se for the correction and good of the person punished, but for the public good in order that others may become terrified and weaned away from the evils they would commit”).[19] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition

Wikipedia; “Heresy is any belief or theory that is strongly at variance with established beliefs or customs, particularly the accepted beliefs or religious law of a religious organization.[1][2] A heretic is a proponent of heresy.[1] Heresy in ChristianityJudaism, and Islam has at times been met with censure ranging from excommunication to the death penalty.[3]

Heresy is distinct from apostasy, which is the explicit renunciation of one’s religion, principles or cause;[4] and from blasphemy, which is an impious utterance or action concerning God or sacred things.[5] Heresiology is the study of heresy.

Tertullian (c. AD 155–240) implied that it was the Jews who most inspired heresy in Christianity: “From the Jew the heretic has accepted [that Jesus was not the Christ].”[10]

Tertullian (c. AD 155–240) implied that it was the Jews who most inspired heresy in Christianity: “From the Jew the heretic has accepted [that Jesus was not the Christ].”[10]

In Britain, the 16th-century English Reformation resulted in a number of executions on charges of heresy. During the thirty-eight years of Henry VIII‘s reign, about sixty heretics, mainly Protestants, were executed and a rather greater number of Catholics lost their lives on grounds of political offences such as treason, notably Sir Thomas More and Cardinal John Fisher, for refusing to accept the king’s supremacy over the Church in England.[45][46][47]

Another example of the persecution of heretics under Protestant rule (in US colonies) was the execution of the Boston martyrs in 1659, 1660, and 1661. These executions resulted from the actions of the Anglican Puritans, who at that time wielded political as well as ecclesiastic control in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At the time, the colony leaders were apparently hoping to achieve their vision of a “purer absolute theocracy” within their colony. As such, they perceived the teachings and practices of the rival Quaker sect as heretical, even to the point where laws were passed and executions were performed with the aim of ridding their colony of such perceived “heresies.”

Orthodox Judaism considers views on the part of Jews who depart from traditional Jewish principles of faith heretical. In addition, the more right-wing groups within Orthodox Judaism hold that all Jews who reject the simple meaning of Maimonides‘s 13 principles of Jewish faith are heretics.[61] As such, most of Orthodox Judaism considers Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism heretical movements, and regards most of Conservative Judaism as heretical. The liberal wing of Modern Orthodoxy is more tolerant of Conservative Judaism, particularly its right wing, as there is some theological and practical overlap between these groups. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heresy

Oliver Bates @BatesOlive48980 Those who worship Lucifer as their god attribute all scripture in the Bible to him, not the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. They believe that Lucifer is the True Light Bearer. Do you see how easy it is for them to creep into our churches with false doctrine and heresy?

COMPARING OFFICIAL CANON BOOKS IN OLD TESTAMENT ACROSS RELIGIONS

The official canon for the Old Testament varies by a huge amount depending on the religion and/or Christian denomination….

First Bible, 12 Apostles approved official Canon Old Testament 0 books

Jewish approved official Canon Old Testament (non Christian) 24 books

Protestant, Syriac approved official Canon Old Testament 39 books[3]

Catholic approved official Canon Old Testament 46 books

Eastern OrthodoxOriental Orthodox approved official Canon Old Testament 49 books

By definition, if an Old Testament contains more or less than the ‘approved canon’ number of books, then wouldn’t that mean it is likely heresy, and wouldn’t it also mean that it is much more likely that the entire group believing in it, using it, or reading it will also be declared heretical by any other group or religion. Which of the above are not heresy and which ones are heresy? Which church council will be considered as the ‘official’ judge and jury, who will decide on these charges of heresy?

By definition, if a Bible contains more or less than the ‘approved canon’ number of books or if it has the wrong ‘notes’ in the margins, or if it has the wrong ‘interpretations’ from the original language, then it is likely to be declared heresy, and also much more likely that the entire group believing in it, using it, or reading it will also be declared heretical.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Creflo Dollar sermon; Let yourself be led by grace and forgiveness, which is the Holy Spirit and Christ inside of every Christian.

1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

We as Christians, followers of Christ, embedded inside the Holy Spirit, did not become saved, nor did we become righteous by our works, nor by how ‘good’ or by how ‘holy’ we were. Committing a sin does not make us unrighteous and sin does not condemn us to Hell forever. Our mistakes/sins do not ‘unsave’ us, nor make us ‘dirty’.

Yes, Christ and the Holy Spirit do work within us to gently, meekly, quietly lead us with a still small voice within, to act and think more in line with Christ. Yes, we can pray to become more like Christ, as led by the Holy Spirit, but in and of our own effort/works, thoughts, emotions and actions, we can do NOTHING except make a bigger mess of things, because we foolishly tend to put ourselves above God/Christ/Holy Spirit, and that is called idol worship.

Those who believe mainly in the ‘law’ of the Old Testament, which requires animal sacrifices and following all kinds of rules and laws that no one can follow anyway, may also believe in Christians becoming ‘unrighteous’, or ‘unsaved’ or doing things ‘wrong’, or committing heresy and then having to do all kinds of ‘works’ including sacrifices to get right with God again. Christ is about grace and forgiveness, not works. Christ is in the inner Holy Spirit, not the outer ‘laws’, ‘rules’ and top down dictates from ‘authorities’.

God’s righteousness is based on God Himself, not on our sacrifices, works, thoughts, emotions, or actions.

Christ’s righteousness is based on God Himself and on the royal blood Christ shed on our behalf, to forgive all of our mistakes plus sins, not on our following all of the Old Testament laws, sacrifices, works, thoughts, emotions, or actions.

Rather than trying to punish ourselves or even others for Christian ‘heresy’, ‘crimes’ or ‘rules’ violations, go within and pray for forgiveness, repent and say in faith; “I am righteousness” not of my own will, but by the will, power and purity of my Lord, Jesus Christ.

Christ and the 12 original apostles call us to UNITY and righteousness, not division. Satan is the architect of rebellion against God, mental thinking, ego, works, lies, lying, deception, secrets, division, hatred, violence, killing, jealousy, rage, heresy, canon, old testament based rules, beliefs/actions, punishment, condemning other Christians to Hell forever, killing other Christians, having some Christians order others around due to their ‘higher’ position, more ‘holiness’, or due to more ‘titles’. All of this is vanity and foolishness, at best.

What would Christ have to say about all of the divisions in the Christian churches and the quarrelling that is happening, if he came back today?

1 Corin. 1: I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Divisions in the Church

10 I appeal to you, brothers,[a] by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach[b] to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,[c] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are29 so that no human being[d] might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him[e] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
